BJP’s Powerful Parliamentary Board

BJP President JP Nadda reshuffled the party’s parliamentary board in a major revamp exercise on August 17, 2022. Parliamentary Board is one of the most powerful bodies in the organizational structure of the BJP. In fact, it is second only to the National Executive, which is the chief executive body of the party. The Parliamentary Board consists of Party President and ten other party members. The role of the Parliamentary Board is to supervise the activities of its members in the parliament and state legislative assemblies. The board participates in the day-to-day activities of the party, regulates the party’s policies, and guides every other body below National Executive.

Highlights of the Reshuffle

  1. Took a major decision to drop Nitin Gadkari and Shivraj Singh Chauhan from the board.
  2. Included six new faces are – former Karnataka CM B S Yediyurappa, Union Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, K Laxman, Sudha Yadav, and Satyanarayan Jatiya.
  3. Party surprised political pundits with its move by not including Yogi Adityanath and Hemant Vishwa Sharma in the powerful body.
  4. By his inclusion, the party has rewarded BL Santosh for his hard work and great performance in the last eight years in the politically key state of Uttar Pradesh.
  5. Iqbal Singh Lalpura is the first Sikh to be included in the body.
  6. Sudha Yadav is the only woman in the board. She is a former MP from Haryana.
